Meet Denise Henning CPA

Finance and Accounting Rescue for Nonprofits

Denise Henning CPA specializes in bringing modern, blue-chip finance and accounting practices to nonprofits of all sizes.

If your nonprofit is in the dark about its financials, in the red regarding its balance sheet, or on the edge about its future, we exist to help you.

We bring nonprofits back from the brink of closure to make them models of efficiency – and the pride of their communities.

This is our specialty and our passion. We understand mission-driven organizations because we’re driven by a mission, too: to champion good works through excellent financial controls.

Our Guiding Principles

We began our work with nonprofits exclusively in 2003 after seeing too many of them struggle needlessly with their finances.

Four principles guided us then, as they do now:

Nonprofits shouldn’t have to settle. Your organization is worthy of operations that parallel those in the for-profit sector. A sound finance and accounting department is not a luxury item. We build financial operations with limited resources that can go toe-to-toe with the world’s best.

Audits shouldn’t be intimidating. We apply the highest standards of financial integrity to every client project. But that doesn’t mean we have to be somber or stiff. We’re informal, approachable, and happy to help. We readily meet you where you are without ever compromising on excellence.
Your financials shouldn’t be complicated. Straightforward, accurate information on your nonprofit’s financial position should be available to you at any time without a scavenger hunt. We simplify your finances and put them at your fingertips.

Programs vs. operations is a false choice. Your nonprofit shouldn’t have to trade its services for efficiency or its vision for stability. We develop finance and accounting roadmaps that get you to high impact with sustainability. And our roadmaps always have your next level in mind.

Meet Denise

Denise Henning is the founder of her namesake firm, which she launched more than 19 years ago to bring for-profit financial principles to nonprofit organizations.

During her 30+ years in finance and accounting, Denise led various for-profit and nonprofit finance departments from the inside. With her front-row seat to their pain points, she delivered solution frameworks and tactics that protected missions and profits plus powered them up.

Denise’s accomplishments include opening revenue streams, dramatically increasing sales, tripling cash reserves, doubling budgets, designing successful capital campaigns, expanding staffing levels, and broadening program reach to more underserved community members whose names and stories she knew.

Behind this headline growth, Denise built sound financial infrastructure and governance. Her systems for internal controls, cash flow management, risk reduction, and financial reporting enabled nonprofit leaders to implement a long-term strategy with high-value partnerships.

Denise is a certified public accountant with training in executive coaching. She’s also trained in servant leadership, which honors her commitment to caring for the teams – and not just the balance sheets – at her nonprofit clients.

Denise holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Toledo. She lives with her family in Upper St. Clair, PA.

Meet Juliette

Juliette Dreger brings her skill in financial operations and her heart for nonprofits to the Denise Henning, CPA, back office. In her bookkeeping role, she supports the firm and its clients with daily and monthly reports, reconciliations, payments, billing, and payroll.

With Juliette’s capable hands and keen eyes on transactions, data entry, and reporting, she helps keep client engagements organized and running smoothly. She also helps clients themselves become exceptional stewards of their resources.

Before working with Denise, Juliette served Open Door Mission in Glens Falls, NY, as an executive assistant, bookkeeper, staff recruiter, and team trainer. Her work helped Open Door provide more than 20,000 meals per year, as well as shelter and paths out of poverty, to vulnerable people and families in the area.

Juliette received her Certificate in Theology from Word of Life Institute in Pottersville, NY. She then earned her bachelor’s in business administration, along with a minor in international business, from the University of South Florida.
